National Conference on Population and Development
The First National Conference on Population and Development will take place from 7th-9th December 2011 at Speke Resort Munyonyo.
Theme:Advancing Uganda's Population and Development Agenda: Partners in Action.
2011 Media Awards
The Population Secretariat with support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) announces the Media Awards 2011 for coverage of population and development issues. These issues include Reproductive Health, Gender, Population growth, Environment, Education, Migration, Urbanization, Human resource and employment.
Entries are invited from journalists in the print and electronic media to compete for these awards. The entries should have been aired or been published in Uganda between August 2010 and August 2011.
Guidelines for submissions
(i) Entries should be clearly marked with entrant’s name, media House, email address and phone contact.
(ii) Non-English entries should be accompanied with an English translation.
(iii) Number of submitted entries per participant should not exceed five.
(iv) Duration of submission should not exceed 5 minutes per item for electronic media entries.
(v) Electronic media submissions should be either on VCD, DVD or audio CD.
(vi) Electronic media entries should include a short transcript.
(vii) Print media submissions should clearly show name of publication and date when article was published.
There will be a special category for upcountry journalists.
The winners will receive their awards during the launching of the State of Uganda and World Population Reports 2011, in October.
The deadline for submission of entries is September 2, 2011.

Launching of the State of Uganda's Population Report 2011
The Launching of the State of Uganda's and World Population Reports 2011 took place on 26th October 2011 in Kampala.Hon. Maria Kiwanuka, Minister of Finance planning and Economic Development officiated at the launch.
World Population Day 2011
World Population Day 2011 national function was held in Kayunga district on July 11, 2011, under the theme: "Uganda at 33; Time to Act".
The main celebrations were attended by over 800 comprising policy makers, government technocrats, district leaders, civil society representatives, development partners and the genaral populace. The function was presided over by Hon. General Moses ALi, 2nd Deputy Prime Minister .
Launching the National Population Policy Action Plan 2011-2015.
Launching the Nation Population Policy Action Plan will take place on Thursday May 19, 2011 at Statistics House Conference Hall, starting at 3:pm.
NB:It should be notted that attendance is strictly by invitation.
Launching the State of Uganda Population Report 2010
Launching the State of Uganda Population Report 2010 took place on Wednesday 20th October 2010 at Imperial Royal Hotel. This year's theme was, "Population and Sustainable Development; Emerging Challenges, Opportunities and Prospects"
World population Day 2010
The national celebrations of the 2010 World Population day were sucessfully hosted by Nebbi district under the theme: Plan for a quality population because everyone counts.
Launching of State of Uganda and World Population Reports 2009.
This took place at Sheraton Kampala Hotel on 26th November 2009. The National Theme was: "Addressing the Effects of Climate Change on Migration Patterns and Women."
The function was presided over by Hon. Syda Bbumba, the Minister of Finance, Planning and Economic Development. Over 500 people attended the function including Members of Parliament, Government officials, members from Civil Society Organizations, the media, private sector and the public.
World Population Day 2009
The national celebrations were successfully hosted by Katakwi distrct under the theme: "Empowering Communities to Overcome Challenges of Poverty." The main celebrations were attended by over 1500 comprising policy makers, government technocrats, district leaders, civil society representatives, development partners and the genaral populace. The function was presided over by Hon. Beatrice Wabudeya, Minister for Presidency.
